2021

The Mettler family volunteered in Arusha

Our whole vision of Swiss School System started at the UCDC Daycare in Arusha, when the Mettler family worked as volunteers. During this time, Tanja and Daniel Mettler, together with teachers from UCDC, started to develop an educational system for daycares in Tanzania.

First remote daycare

08. August 2021

After the Mettler family left Arusha, UCDC Daycare had the wish to continue teaching with this new system. For this reason, Tanja Mettler created a remote program for this school.
Tanja sent UCDC 7 activities weekly and the teachers gave feedback and sent videos.

Recruitment of a location manager in Arusha

We were able to recruit Roseline, who we already knew as manager of UCDC Daycare, as location manager in Arusha. With the approval of the UCDC, of ​​course. Roseline is our organization's first full-time employee.

2022

Our office in Arusha

In January 2022 we were able to find an office building in Arusha. A safe location was found for our large-volume printer. Finally we were ready to work with more daycares.

Start with three new daycares

Roseline made daycare visits and told daycare owners about our system. Some daycares only wanted financial support, which of course we do not offer. Three Daycares saw the value of education and started teaching Swiss School System.

The prepared lessons should be technically easy to distribute. Therefore, the company 2sic in Buchs programmed the education platform school-sys.org/edu for us free of charge. All schools can log on to this platform and access lesson activities.

Trip to Arusha

In order to check whether the Swiss School System was also successful from a distance, a group of delegates from Buchs visited the 4 existing schools in Arusha. The conclusion was great - all schools taught the program and the response was huge.

Trial phase with one daycare in Cape Town, South Africa

09. October 2022

The location Cape Town, South Africa was officially opened and the first daycare, Siluncedo, received the Swiss School System program as the first school in South Africa.

The 20th Daycare

The number of daycares grew and soon we were able to support 20 daycares in Arusha and South Africa with the Swiss School System - that means over 900 children are enjoying a better education.

After a successful launch of Siluncedo Daycare in South Africa, we were able to recruit Selinah Ingwane as location manager. She will set up the location there and onboard other schools.

Kick-off of our new literacy project

In daycares, English literacy is often taught in a unsustainable way, where most of the teachers are not fluent in English themselves. We are developing a literacy course that is specified for African circumstances, easy to teach and with a lot of fun.

Finally, we could set foot into the oldest township in Cape Town, Capricorn. Des is daycare teacher herself and has a lot of experience. Coach Des will aim for 30 daycares in this region.
